Video: Asian treat: Make your own dim sum

Throwing a party this summer? Try these simple but delicious Asian treats that will wow your friends. Chef Michael Schulson of Buddakan New York shares some great ideas for your next gathering.

Recipe: Thai Basil Lemonade

Ingredients
  • Simple Syrup
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • Other Ingredients
  • 1 cup simple syrup
  • 1 cup vodka
  • 1 cup lemon juice
  • 1 cup selzer
  • Ice
  • 6 pieces Thai basil leaves
Preparation

To make the simple syrup
Add sugar and water to a pot and bring to a boil; set aside and let cool.

In a Boston shaker, shake all the ingredients well. Serve in an old fashioned glass over ice. Garnish with an extra basil leaf and lemon wedge.

Recipe: Sweet and Sour Marinade for Satay

To accompany your choice of proteins, veggies, etc.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Preparation

Mix everything together in a bowl and marinate meat, fish, chicken, and/or vegetables for 2 hours. Soak the skewers in water to prevent burning. Skewer and grill until cooked to desired doneness.

Recipe: Edamame Dumplings

Ingredients
  • Edamame Filling
  • 3 cups edamame
  • 1/2 pound butter
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • 25 store-bought wonton wrappers
Preparation

In water, cook the edamame until tender. Strain and puree with the other ingredients. Refrigerate the filling overnight until firm.

Put a teaspoon of the filling on a wonton skin; brush with water and fold in half to seal. Steam 5 pieces of the dumplings until tender, approximately 5 minutes.

Serving Size

Makes 25 pieces

Recipe: Crab Spring Roll

Ingredients
  • 1 cup crab meat
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese (soft)
  • 1 scallion, sliced
  • Egg wash: 1 egg yolk and 1 teaspoon of water; mix well.
  • 10 store-bought spring roll wrappers
Preparation

Clean the crab. Mix all the ingredients well. Put a teaspoon of the mixture in the middle of the spring roll wrapper; brush with an egg wash. Bake in a 500 degree oven until golden, approximately 5 minutes.

Serving Size

Makes 10 pieces
