Dunst says she'd consider 'Spider-Man 4' role

Kirsten Dunst proves in "Spider-Man 3" that she can belt out a tune, but don't expect the actress best known as the webbed-one's fictional love interest to be singing soon at a theater near you.

Dunst, 25, says she would entertain reprising her character "Mary Jane Watson" for a fourth screen adaptation of the comic book hero's crime-fighting escapades — with conditions. She'd also consider getting up on stage to act, but she's adamant that singing roles are out of the question.

"I think a real Broadway actress should do it. That would be very egotistical of me, I think," Dunst told TODAY anchor Meredith Vieira as the new film's national publicity tour wrapped up Wednesday. "I don't have that kind of voice. I can't sing live every night."

As "Spider-Man 3" opens, a singing "M.J." is shown descending a Broadway stage stairway. The change was somewhat welcomed by Dunst, whose character's career floundered in past films.

"I didn't know you were a singer," Vieira remarked.

"Well, you know. It's not something I promote," Dunst said. "I've always sung and had singing lessons in my life. I was just so happy M.J. could get a gig. She's always been struggling."

"Spider-Man 4"?
Dunst has not had trouble getting gigs in recent years. She says she would consider appearing in "Spiderman-4," if that's in the cards, but attached some strings.

Dunst said she doesn't want to be put "in peril" again by some of the stunts required of her. And she would consider playing "M.J." in a fourth movie if co-star Tobey Maguire and director Sam Raimi returned, too.

"He loves torturing me emotionally and physically," Dunst said of Raimi. "He loves watching [M.J.] cry. I got put through it on this movie."
