Cubs sale slowed by disastrous economy
The Cubs' sale could be worth more than $1 billion, but it's not looking like it's going to happen anytime soon now, due to the changes in Wall Street in the past few weeks. Potential buyer Mark Cuban is saying that he has no idea when the deal will continue its progress but that right now things are being majorly slowed by all the financial certainty, especially since an environment has been created where a sale isn't exactly optimal for either the buyer or the seller. Still, the Mavs owner is in it till the big-boned lady sings. (Chicago Sun Times)

Canseco wants to fight again
Jose Canseco
has already had his clock cleaned in boxing ring by former Eagle Vai Sikahema this past summer. Steroid whistleblower Canseco, who will apparently do anything for a dollar and once claimed that Madonna asked him to marry her, is apparently looking for somebody else to fight in the Philadelphia area in January. Andruw staying away from teammates
Injured Dodgers center fielder Andruw Jones really wished he was with the team in Philly and would like nothing more than to be sitting in the dugout when the game starts this afternoon instead of watching the game on TV in his suburban Atlanta home like the rest of us schlubs but he's stayed clear of the team since he went onto the 60-day disabled list in mid-September because of one reason and one reason only: He doesn't want to jinx his teammates. Hmmm. After the loss to the Phils last night, maybe he'd be better luck to the team if he was at the game? (Los Angeles Times)

NFL
Pacman arguing with his girlfriend?
One witness at the now-infamous Dallas party for rapper Ludacris is saying that Adam "Pacman" Jones spent part of the party yelling at his girlfriend in the men's room and "he had his finger all in her face." Meanwhile, the bodyguard hired by the Cowboys who Pacman was supposedly hitting is saying the whole thing was no big deal and essentially that all eyes should be averted now, but the NFL is going to go ahead and investigate. There are two stories about how the fight started between Pacman and his bodyguard: (1) They were just horsing around, and (2) the bodyguard didn't think it was a good idea for Pacman, who had just come off an NFL suspension for bad behavior and is supposed to keep himself out of trouble, told Pacman that he thought the party probably wasn't a good place for him to be. Them's fighting words!  (Dallas Morning News, CBS11TV)

Looking like Orlovsky in Detroit
It's not looking good for Lions quarterback Jon Kitna. His back must still be hurting him because backup Dan Orlovsky was taking the snaps at practice Thursday. Word is that Orlovsky is very likely to be the starter come Sunday. Why not? The winless team couldn't be playing much worse.  (Detroit Free Press)

Chargers without two receivers?
The Chargers may be in second place in their division but things are looking to get a little rougher for the team since it's looking likely it may be without two receivers: vet Chris Chambers, who injured an ankle against Miami last weekend, and Vincent Jackson, who banged up his knee during practice Wednesday and sat out Thursday's session. Even if they both play, neither will likely be 100 percent. (Press-Enterprise)

NBA
Lakers are ditching Odom?

Word is that the Lakers wouldn't mind getting rid of

Lamar Odom

and his contract before February's trading deadline. Part of it apparently depends on how well

Josh Powell

can serve as

Pau Gasol

's backup (and there have been no complaints so far). For L.A., it sure would be nice to ditch that $11.7 million in salary and the word is that one player of interest is Chicago point guard

Kirk Hinrich

, who is expendable with rookie

Derrick Rose

taking over starting duties. (HoopsWorld)

Former Heat GM Pfund headed to Clips?
Now that the Man Without a Contract, Elgin Baylor, has been escorted from the Clippers building, the team has a big hole to fill at GM. Word is that Randy Pfund, who resigned from that position with the Heat because he wanted to have a little more autonomy, could be on the list in L.A. to replace Baylor. (Now how does Baylor resolve the fact that he was the guy handing out contracts for so long and didn't bother to sign one himself since sometime in the '90s?) (Palm Beach Post)

Former T-Wolf standout looking for team
Kirk Snyder
was kicking some booty at the end of last season for the Minnesota Timberwolves with 51.6 percent shooting, but he's found himself without a team this season but one is apparently after him along with three international teams (one in Europe and two in Asia). Word is he'll make a decision next week but Snyder may extend the trend of lower-level players heading overseas to make bigger bucks, a trend the NBA apparently won't be too concerned about until more players at the level of former Hawk (and current member of Olympiakos) Josh Childress and above start taking the bucks and running.
