PARIS - Air France says about 400 of its Miami-bound passengers spent almost 10 hours in a plane at Paris' Charles de Gaulle Airport because of technical problems.

Flight 090, scheduled to depart at 10:45 a.m. Monday, left at 8:34 p.m. — amid applause from passengers, the airline says — just a few minutes before it had been due to reach Miami.

Air France said Tuesday that a slight fuel leak followed by an engine glitch sent the Boeing 747 back and forth between the runway and a plane parking area on Monday.

The airline said passengers were not allowed off during the wait in Paris, because time-consuming safety measures would have lengthened the ordeal. Instead they were fed meals and snacks. Air France promised compensation.
