"Brutal" Rapist Represents Self; Gets 75 Years

Judge calls Nache Africa, "As bad as they get."

He's described by prosecutors as one of the most dangerous sexual predators this community has ever seen. The judge agrees, and sentences Nache Afrika to the maximum. Afrika was found guilty in two separate jury trials in the rape, sodomy, and robbery of a Cheektowaga department store employee in 1998. He again asserted his innocence today, claiming he sympathizes with the family. Afrika is currently serving time for similar crimes he committed in Rochester the same year. Extra security guarded Afrika at sentencing. The judge says he made made threats to the deputies and everyone in the courtroom. Afrika was calm, however, as he received 25 years in prison for each count. That will begin in the year 2020. Afrika acted as his own lawyer through the trials in Rochester and Erie. He questioned the DNA evidence and some procedures, and successfully overturned his first guilty verdict in today's case. He plans to appeal the sentence.
