With a gutty goal-line stand and one big heave by Gus Frerotte, the Minnesota Vikings grabbed control of the NFC North and sent Kyle Orton and the Chicago Bears home with a humbling 34-14 defeat.


Colts earn revenge with critical win over Chargers

The Chargers eliminated the Colts from the playoffs last season, but Indy's 23-20 win over San Diego this year may keep the Bolts from the postseason completely. Adam Vinatieri's 51-yard last-second field goal provided the game-winning points.



Cowboys rally behind Romo to beat Redskins

Rejoining the Cowboys after a three-game hiatus due to a broken pinkie, Tony Romo looked far from perfect but still led Dallas past Washington, 14-10.


Giants solidify their hold on NFC East

Struggling to solidify their position as a playoff contender, the Eagles needed to beat the Giants on Sunday night. But missed opportunities prevented Philly from getting the win, and New York pulled out a 36-31 victory on the road.

Peyton Manning found Anthony Gonzalez in the end zone twice, as the Colts held on to beat the Patriots, 18-15. With the win, the struggling Colts improved their record to 4-4.


Bucs beat down struggling Seahawks

Jeff Garcia completed 26 of 37 passes for 310 yards, including a 47-yard touchdown pass to Antonio Bryant on Tampa Bay’s opening drive, and the Buccaneers beat the struggling Seattle Seahawks 20-10 on Sunday night.


Chargers get tough, brush off Patriots

Philip Rivers threw three touchdown passes and San Diego’s defense stuffed the New England Patriots for a dominating 30-10 win on Sunday.

Steelers keep Browns out of end zone in win

A wind-whipped drizzle failed to dampen an enthusiastic crowd in Cleveland, but the final score sent fans away unhappy. The Browns dropped their 10th straight to the Steelers, as Pittsburgh earned a 10-6 victory.


Manning rusty as Colts fall to Bears

Peyton Manning didn't play at all in the preseason, and his time away from football showed in the Colts' season-opening game. Chicago beat Indianapolis, 29-13.


Springsteen to perform at Super Bowl halftime

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will perform at halftime during Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa.
