NEW YORK — Sure Betty Boop knows how to "boop-oop-a-doop," but will she be able to sing and dance on stage?
Theatergoers will have to wait until the 2010-2011 season to find out when "Betty Boop," a new musical about the curvaceous cartoon cutie, is expected to open on Broadway. The show, featuring music by Grammy-winner David Foster and a book by Sally Robinson and Oscar Williams, will play a Nederlander theater, Ostar Productions said Thursday. Additional details will be announced later.
Foster is the winner of more than a dozen Grammy Awards and has worked with such singers as Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston, Josh Groban and Andrea Bocelli.
Betty Boop, created by Max Fleischer, made her cartoon debut in the early 1930s and was an immediate sensation whose popularity has lasted through the decades.
