Lady Gaga, Beyonce get nine VMA nods each

Britney Spears has seven, while Kanye, Eminem, Coldplay have four each

NEW YORK — Lady Gaga and Beyonce lead the way for the MTV Video Music Awards.

The two singers have nine nominations each. Britney Spears has seven, while Kanye West, Eminem and Coldplay have four each.

Lady Gaga's video for "Poker Face" and "Single Ladies" by Beyonce are up for video of the year. They will face off against "Womanizer" by Spears, Eminem's "We Made You" and West's "Love Lockdown."

Viewers can vote in the general categories beginning today through Sept. 13 at http://www.VMA.MTV.com.

The awards will be handed out in New York on Sept. 13. Comedian Russell Brand will return as host.
