Video: Update your makeup after weight loss

  1. Closed captioning of: Update your makeup after weight loss

    >>> back on this thursday morning with "today's beauty" and a lesson from an award winning makeup artist .

    >> we know her very, very well. when many women lose weight it shows up first in their face. we've asked eve pearl who happens to help our own meredith vieira to look her best every day, to show you some of the trix of the trade.

    >> come on over here, eve.

    >> that's a great topic. women lose weight . they feel great about their bodies, but the faces --

    >> not so much.

    >> yeah.

    >> when we lose the excess weight from our body, we lose the necessary fat from our face.

    >> the elasticity.

    >> it gets more dry looking.

    >> a little jowly, let's be honest.

    >> yes. all those things. be want to plump everything back up again.

    >> without surgery. which we've never done. first, we have a ada . this is ada on the right. she lost 50 pounds. this is a before picture. let's see ada when she's thinner but still without the makeup on. so this is -- god, she lost so much weight.

    >> she's amazing.

    >> so tell me what you were thinking about when you look at this shot?

    >> i see a beautiful woman, but i notice that her face just got longer and thinner. i really want to replumbp it up but in the right places and bring out all that sh shine and glow.

    >> i'm sorry. who is this? oh, my gosh.

    >> show us what you did.

    >> look at this --

    >> what did you do?

    >> first of all, i think she's beautiful. as you were saying earlier, you do lose the elasticity and you look more dehydrated.

    >> you look thinner but the bad news is you do tend to look older.

    >> there always has to be some crazy down side. so very important. you always want to try to use foundations that are cream based that give you some of that moisture back. with ada , as this was getting sunken in, i want to make sure i pumped up her cheeks so i would use warmer colors around her cheek areas for the foundation. when doing the blush, again, i took that all the way up here.

    >> don't make the round cherry cheeks.

    >> blend everything.

    >> blending everything is important. then i plumped up her lips. she still looks dewy. don't forget close your eyes for a second, ada , make those eyes look beautiful. so when she opens her eyes. open.

    >> stop it. look at you.

    >> someone's having an excellent hair day.

    >> and it takes a village, people.

    >> now we'll move on to sherry. she's an elementary school principal. but more importantly, she's actually the mother of one of our producers here. mr. adam miller .

    >> if you like our props in the morning, that's adam .

    >> this is before she dropped the 75 pounds. look at that.

    >> there's adam .

    >> oh, he did graduate. we had our doubts. this is sherry now.

    >> you see, what ended up happening is her features and her face became more defined but then at the same time her eyes kind of got a little sunken in, so she looks a little bit more hollowed. i wanted to plump up the areas.

    >> and here she is.

    >> wow.

    >> smiling, looking great.

    >> wow.

    >> so what did you do?

    >> what i did was i actually took a blush, a cream blush that's really a foundationp you see how she's smiling. i put the blush here and took it all the way up right under the apples. so then you're able to take your salmon concealer and mix that with -- everything blends in nicely. no line of demarcation.

    >> using these products now.

    >> they really are great. terrific.

    >> sherry, you look awesome. ada , come on. and to the whole family. look at adam . how is she looking?

    >> i thought she looked great before. but she looks good.

    >> you raised a fine son.

    >> thank you. i agree.

    >> we have actually learned to like adam . we're fond of him now. we don't know how it happened. but we are.

    >> next, the young woman who saved her own life. * everyone has a moment that changes their life *

    >> today we meet our newest "everyone has a story" contest

What a fantastic feat it is to lose a significant amount of weight today. You’ve probably increased your life expectancy, decreased your chances of a life-threatening disease, doubled your energy and boosted your confidence. There couldn’t possibly be anything negative associated with that type of accomplishment, right?

Well, many women and men would beg to differ. Many find it difficult to become comfortable in their new, skinny bodies. Lots of people don’t realize that weight loss introduces a new set of skin — literally. Five-time Emmy Award-winning makeup expert Eve Pearl explains how to get the most out of your new facial structure and hide what could be considered flaws.

Mask drooping skin
After significant weight loss, many people notice that they now have excess skin on their bodies. Typically, this is a result of fat loss, and it causes a drooping of the skin both on the body and on the face. So, while we are ecstatic to have less fat on our bodies, we can now see the hollows and lines around our eyes and lips that were not apparent when they were filled out with fat. This is also the reason so many women are getting fat injections and face-lifts these days.

While adding fat and lifting can certainly have a smoothing effect on the face, there are makeup tricks of the trade that will not only be your safest option, but will help you look your absolute best while concealing your new “lines of wisdom.”

Start out by applying a creamy two-toned foundation and salmon concealer. A cream base will help to give a fresh and dewy look, eliminating any dryness that may have occurred as a result of losing fat. A cream-based dual foundation will allow you to contour the face where needed, and the salmon concealer will de-emphasize any hollows under the eyes and get rid of dark under-eye circles by neutralizing the blue/purple undertones in the thinnest parts of your skin.  Blending the creams with a wet sponge will allow for the smoothest application.

Next, soften your cheeks using a cream blush. The cream blush will not get into your lines as much as powder will. However, you may still apply a powder blush over all of the creams. Take the powder blush all the way up under the eyes, giving the appearance of a filler. Also use it under the jaw line. Highlight your eyes, lips
Most important, do not neglect to bring out your eyes and lips. For deep-set eyes, use warm tones like peach and pink (almost like your blush colors). Also, don’t be afraid to use greens and blues to bring out your eyes. And try some lashes for special occasions.

To achieve fuller lips, try filling them in with a liner and then adding your favorite lip color. Remember that gloss will help them appear more plump, luscious and youthful. To prevent lipstick feathering, apply powder around the edges of your lips. It will act like a border and keep your color from moving. All in all, your weight loss is awesome! Learning how to achieve the best possible look in your new skin is a very easy obstacle to overcome considering all of your hard work thus far. One last tip: Use an anti-aging tinted moisturizer when you’re not wearing any makeup. It will give you a natural healthy glow and protect your skin from sun damage. Love the skin you’re in, ’cause you’ll be in it for a lot longer now that you’re that much healthier!
