Somerset police detectives are currently working a murder investigation that took place sometime Friday night.
At 1:44 AM Saturday morning, patrol officers went to 555 McKee Street to speak to Homer Carrender, age 72, about finding his car a short distance from his apartment. When they arrived, officers were not able to get Carrender to come to the door. Maintenance personnel assisted them and Carrender was found dead inside his apartment. The initial investigation showed Carrender had been the victim of a homicide.
Carrender was pronounced dead at the scene by Chief Deputy Coroner Jim McWhorter. His body was taken to Frankfort Saturday morning where an autopsy was performed.
Detectives have identified a person of interest in the case, but that person’s identity has not been released.
