As the urgent need for aid in areas of Haiti devastated by Tuesday’s earthquake becomes more evident, celebrities are doing their part to pledge support and inspire fans to follow in the charitable footsteps.

“I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse,” Haitian-born musician and Yéle Haiti founder Wyclef Jean wrote on his blog. “The over 2 million people in Port-au-Prince tonight face catastrophe alone. We must act now.”

It was a sentiment echoed by Jean’s A-list pals Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

“We are devastated by the news from Haiti,” Pitt and Jolie said in a statement published to JustJared.com. “We will work closely with our good friend Wyclef Jean to support the humanitarian efforts on the island and help those who have been injured and left without homes and shelter.”

“House” actress Olivia Wilde decided to appeal to fans willing to up their charitable offer in exchange for more than the warm feeling of a good deed done. On Wednesday, Wilde tweeted the promise of a personalized video message to anyone who donated $200 or more toward the cause through Artists for Peace and Justice.

A constantly growing list of other stars — including Adam Lambert, Rainn Wilson, Lindsay Lohan, Demi Moore, Alyssa Milano, Nicole Richie and Marlee Matlin — are taking time away from the usual self-promotional celebrity Twitter activity to express their sorrow, spread the news or simply ask anyone to help any way possible.

A-Rod’s ‘new’ romance began before Hudson split
That new blonde spotted on the arm of Yankee’s third baseman Alex Rodriguez isn’t so new after all. A source close to A-Rod and his apparent gal pal, Elaine Spottswood, 25, insists this romance began before the slugger and actress Kate Hudson went their separate ways.

“Elaine and Alex have been romantic for a few months, since before he and Kate ended their relationship,” the insider told In Touch Weekly.

Rodriguez hid his interest in Spottswood, according to another source, but was bold enough to text her while he spent time with Hudson.

“Kate is devastated and feels stupid,” a friend of the star revealed. “She thought that she and Alex were moving toward marriage, and all the while he was not taking the relationship as seriously as she was. She never would have imagined he would cheat on her.”

Ex calls Jon Gosselin a ‘textbook sociopath’
Shortly after a report indicated the New York Police Department believes Jon Gosselin’s apartment burglary was likely a publicity stunt, the former reality TV dad’s ex-girlfriend lashed out at him online.

Slideshow: Celebrity scandals of 2009 Hailey Glassman, otherwise known to Gosselin’s lawyer as the prime suspect behind the alleged crime, felt vindicated by the latest twist in the he-said, she-said break-in saga. Which, of course, meant it was time to take to her Twitter account and once again share just what she thinks of the father of eight.

“Finally other people (NYPD) can see through the ‘textbook sociopath’s’ (Google sociopath aka JG) lies,” Glassman wrote.

Then, addressing Gosselin directly, she added, “JG get off you’re ass or whoever is riding u – lol – Stop watching ‘Law and Order’ N get a job so u can pay 4 ur fam + pay me back the money I loaned u!”

Dish on the fly
Despite the impression given by some aging Hollywood husbands, Alec Baldwin insists not every eligible older man wants a trophy wife. “A certain kind of man does and a certain kind doesn’t,” the “It’s Complicated” actor told U.K. newspaper Metro. “It’s sad but there are men who go for whatever their earliest ideal of a sexual partner was; they stay with that ideal, meaning men often lock into the image of the first girl they loved at 18. So they get stuck in an idea of sexuality with young women. Other men learn to see beyond all that.” Baldwin, who seems to occupy the second camp, then pondered, “What’s worse than waking up with a 25-year-old woman, you know what I mean? You want to go shoot yourself because you have nothing to say to her. Seriously.” … Some fans may consider it big screen blasphemy, but “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” star Matthew Broderick approves of a possible future remake of his iconic ’80s hit. “It would be fine,” the actor revealed in an interview with Cinematical. “I would be perfectly happy for somebody to do that.” One thing that wouldn’t make Broderick happy is one of those oh-so-trendy old-school cameos. “I probably wouldn't enjoy that,” he said. “I would rather leave what we did as our thing.” … A movie is only as good or bad as its box-office receipts. At least that’s the lesson action vet Jackie Chan walked away with after filming what he thought was his worst flick. “They called me for the first ‘Rush Hour,’ and I said, ‘No, I don't like to do this kind of movie,’ ” Chan explained to Parade magazine. “I say, ‘Policeman from Hong Kong with a black American cop ... what's that about?’ But, I do the film anyway, and when I see it, I hate it. The action’s bad. The dialogue I don’t understand.” But it wasn’t long before the martial arts master saw the appeal. “Then they call and say, ‘Wow, big success ... $32 million the first week.’ I go, ‘Oh, now I like it!’ ”
