Open marriage not ‘deal-breaker’ for Mo’Nique

After knowing each other for over 25 years, Mo’Nique says she’s very confident in her relationship with husband Sidney Hicks — so confident, in fact, that the pair has an open marriage.

“Could Sid have sex outside of his marriage with me? Yes. That’s not a deal-breaker,” the actress told Barbara Walters in the interviewer’s upcoming Oscar special. “That’s not something that would make us say, ‘Pack your things and let’s end the marriage.’

Even, she added, if he were to do so on numerous occasions.

“What if it’s 20 times?” she said. “So what? We’ve been best friends for over 25 years, and we truly know who we are. Oftentimes, people get into marriages and they don’t know who they’re laying next to. I’m very comfortable and secure with my husband.”

However, Mo’Nique clarified that she herself had not indulged in the liberty of sleeping with someone else.

“Let me say this: I have not had sex outside my marriage with Sidney,” she explained, adding that she keeps her husband interested with her unshaven legs — which she’s shown off on the red carpet many times this year during an awards season that’s given her multiple honors already for her role in “Precious.”

“He loves the hairy legs,” she said. “And if Sid likes the hairy legs, there you go ... I’m 42 and very hairy.”

Keeping her from shaving her stems, she added, was a single bad experience.

“I tried shaving one time, and it was so uncomfortable and painful,” she said. “I said, ‘Never again would I do that to myself.’”

Mo’Nique, who has taken home Supporting Actress honors at the Golden Globes, the SAG Awards and several other recent ceremonies, will look to earn the biggest award of all on Sunday at the Academy Awards, where she’s again nominated for the role of ‘Mary Jones’ in “Precious.”

Barbara Walters’ 29th and final Oscar night special, which will also feature an interview with Best Actress nominee Sandra Bullock, airs before the Oscars on Sunday at 7 PM ET on ABC on the East Coast and after the ceremony on the West Coast.
