Lady Gaga’s appearance on Wednesday night’s “American Idol” has caused a bit of controversy, but not because of anything that actually aired during the show.

As everyone who caught “Idol” knows, Gaga performed “Alejandro” for the show, but apparently, when she originally taped her appearance, she led off with “Bad Romance.”

Gaga posted a link to the full-length version to her Twitter account saying, “Idol cut down my performance — see the full-length performance here little monsters.”

“Bad Romance” is the most-viewed You Tube video of all time, so why wouldn’t “Idol” want to attract similar interest? Some theories out there suggest that Gaga showed too much skin during the performance, so only the “Alejandro” portion — where she was decidedly more covered up — was kept.

Representatives for “Idol” had no comment on why the performance was truncated, but according to other sources with knowledge of the decision to trim the tape, it had nothing to do with any risqué material. “It was because of time,” said one source.

‘Glee’ star spends Time 100 gala in lip-lock
“Glee” star Lea Michele was invited to the Time 100 Gala Tuesday night, but she didn’t spend a lot of time mingling with other guests, at least during the dinner hour, which she spent in a lip-lock with her plus-one.

“According to a disinterested witness at her table at the Time 100 gala last night, ‘Glee’ star Lea Michelle spent the entire dinner hour making out with her boyfriend at her table, ignoring the other high-profile guests,” Chris Rovzar wrote in New York Magazine.

Joaquin Phoenix mockumentary might really exist
Remember when Joaquin Phoenix began sporting a homeless hipster look, swore off acting and appeared on Letterman for maybe the most awkward interview ever? People began to speculate it was all part of an act, and that just might be the case.

Mike Fleming of Deadline New York broke the news that Phoenix’s friend Casey Affleck directed Phoenix’s transformation, has packaged it into a mockumentary and screened it for possible buyers. No word on what the content is, though. The project is being shrouded in secrecy for “maximum shock value,” according to Fleming.

‘Iron Man’ will smash box office
There’s only one big contender at the box office this weekend — it’s “Iron Man 2,” which will also have the widest initial release in Hollywood history. Paramount is launching the film in 4,380 locations.

“The Dark Knight” was the previous record holder — it opened in 4,366 locations. If we wake up on Monday morning and “Iron Man 2” is not at No. 1, consider the apocalypse upon us.

The only other buzz-worthy new release for the weekend is “Babies,” which has gotten big attention on the Internet and has an obvious Mother’s Day peg. It’s not getting a wide enough release to make much of a dent against “Iron Man 2.”
