The television world's annual tribute to itself is set for Sunday night, going live to all U.S. time zones for the first time in recent memory. Having a totally live show means everything needs to work — the first time — so there's plenty of last-minute prepping going on heading into the weekend. Maybe a few pre-parties, too. Here's the latest:

A-list of presenters
The Television Academy has released its final batch of presenters for Sunday night's Primetime Emmy Awards, completing a parade of talent that is sure to keep the three-hour show glamorous, if nothing else. Included in the most recent stellar lineup are Claire Danes, Ted Danson, Tom Selleck, and Mariska Hargitay of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," who is nominated this year for lead actress in a drama series.

They join a list of previously announced presenters that includes Stephen Colbert, Edie Falco, Tina Fey, Ricky Gervais, Jon Hamm, Neil Patrick Harris, January Jones, LL Cool J, John Lithgow, Ann-Margret, newlyweds Anna Paquin and Steven Moyer of "True Blood," Eva Longoria Parker and of course Betty White.

The ceremony will be broadcast from the Nokia Theatre at LA LIVE in downtown Los Angeles beginning at 8 p.m. EDT on NBC.

Rooting for a rival
Even Holland Taylor is rooting for Jane Lynch to win the Emmys on Sunday.

Like Lynch, Taylor is nominated as supporting actress in a comedy series: Taylor for her portrayal of Charlie Sheen's toxic mother on "Two and a Half Men," Lynch for creating the caustic coach on "Glee."

"If Jane Lynch doesn't take this award, the world will tilt on its axis," Taylor said. "We've never seen a character like that before."

A 1999 Emmy winner for "The Practice," Taylor has been nominated four times for her work on "Men." "My mother died right when I took this job, and I was really at sea," explained the diminutive Philadelphian, who seized opportunities that came with the regular schedule of a hit sitcom, including writing a one-woman show about the late Texas governor Ann Richards. With it, she cast herself against type, as the wickedly witty Southern Democrat.

While Taylor was working on the play this summer, the fate of "Men" was uncertain, despite high ratings, as Sheen was in contract negotiations and also struggling with personal and legal issues. As a result of the negotiations, Sheen is now TV's top-paid actor, making more than $1 million per episode, according to a "TV Guide" magazine report.

Taylor doesn't make nearly as much loot, but said she is grateful for what "Men" has given her since day one. "I just thought, 'Wow! Are you prepared for what you are marching resolutely towards, without even thinking about it?' And the answer was, 'No! Hell, no!' I'm not remotely prepared for what this is going towards the big dirt nap."

Peeking at the process
Like Sunday night's main event, the Primetime Creative Arts Emmys airing Friday also has its stars and trophies. But it will offer something more — a peek into how the TV industry works.

"It's really going to be a very entertaining show and people are going to learn a lot about television," says producer Spike Jones Jr., who adds, Not in a PBS way, but from the "bosses," or showrunners, who create and produce TV programs.

Surprising Emmy nominees who have never won

The ceremony, held last weekend and airing 1-3 p.m. EDT Friday on the E! channel, teamed showrunners and stars from nominated series as presenters, including Ryan Murphy and Jane Lynch of "Glee" and Matthew Weiner and Christina Hendricks of "Mad Men."

Jones promises fun from presenters such as Andy Samberg and Seth Meyer of "Saturday Night Live" and showrunner Marc Cherry and Vanessa Williams of "Desperate Housewives."

Starry, starry night
After winning (or losing) Emmys, 3,600 celebrities and other invitees will end the evening at the Governors Ball inside the West Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center, just steps away from the Nokia Theatre. The behemoth 57,600-square-foot space has been transformed into a celestial heaven for Sunday's galactic dinner party.

"This is a very large room," said designer Dwight Jackson. "It's bigger than a football field."

To turn the colossal hall into an intimate ballroom, the space has been surrounded by 50,000-square-feet of black drapery. Thousands of tiny mirror balls dangle from the ceiling around a giant disco ball encased in a glittering sun sculpture hung above the stage, while giant glowing spheres representing each sign of the zodiac circle the dance floor.

JOSH TURNER, co-host: So which shows...

    KOTB: Mm-hmm.

TURNER: ... actors and actresses will be the big winners?

KOTB: Absolutely. Jessica Shaw 's got your Emmy preview. She's a senior writer at Entertainment Weekly . Hello .

    Ms. JESSICA SHAW: Hello .

KOTB: And congratulations in advance on the baby that's on the way.

    Ms. SHAW: Thank you.

KOTB: OK, Jimmy Fallon , I've seen all the promos all over the place . How do you think he's going to do as host?

Ms. SHAW: I am so excited for him.

    KOTB: Yeah.

Ms. SHAW: I think he's so much fun on his show, and I think he's going to bring a really new excitement. It's his first time. Love what he's doing with Twitter . He's having people -- twitter followers, subscribers -- text in intros for some of the presenters.

    KOTB: Oh.

Ms. SHAW: So for example, for -- Jon Hamm is, you know, he's presenting. A Twitter follower can write in, ' Here's how he should be introduced.' And I think that's such a fun, unique way of...

KOTB: So do you think he'll actually use those tweets?

    Ms. SHAW: Yes, he is.

KOTB: I'm going to like -- I'm going to love that.

Ms. SHAW: Are you writing in?

KOTB: I might have to. I didn't know we could -- we could do that. All right, so we -- we're going to go through some categories. Outstanding Drama Series . There's " Mad Men ," there's " True Blood ," "Good Wife"...

    Ms. SHAW: Right.

KOTB: ...a bunch of other ones that are on the screen. What do you think's going to take it?

Ms. SHAW: I think " Mad Men " is going to take it, though I have to say I think this was " True Blood "'s year. I think it was so great. It was creepy and dark and sexy and really wonderful and...

    KOTB: Yeah.

Ms. SHAW: But I think " Mad Men " has the momentum, so.

KOTB: " Mad Men "'s going to win. OK. What about Outstanding Comedy Series ? "Glee" is one of those on the list.

    Ms. SHAW: Right.

KOTB: I love "Glee." "Modern Family," "30 Rock," which is great.

    Ms. SHAW: Right.

    KOTB: " The Office ." It's, you know -- what -- what's your pick?

Ms. SHAW: I think this year the story of comedy series is new shows.

    KOTB: Yeah.

Ms. SHAW: It's "Modern Family" vs. "Glee." It will definitely be one of those two. But I'm sorry to say I don't think it's going to be "Glee."

    KOTB: Ah.

Ms. SHAW: I think "Modern Family" is going to win.

KOTB: You do? Do you like any of these, Josh ?

    TURNER: Oh, yeah.

    KOTB: "Glee," "Modern Family"?

    TURNER: All of them.

    KOTB: All of them?

TURNER: I like all of them.

    KOTB: All right.

    Ms. SHAW: Both great shows.

KOTB: OK, I like that. All right, Lead Actor in a Drama . OK, we've got the

list up there: Bryan Cranston from " Breaking Bad ," Matthew Fox on "Lost." What's your pick?

Ms. SHAW: I think Bryan Cranston . And he's won two years in a row, so this would be his third time. He, of course, is the chemistry teacher turned drug dealer. I have to say, though, I really wish Matthew Fox would win. "Lost" is off the air. This is the last chance to honor him.

    KOTB: Oh, yeah.

Ms. SHAW: He was so great this last season. The finale, he did such outstanding work. I really think he deserves -- he deserves it.

KOTB: Do you think they might just for nostalgia and the rest of it?

    Ms. SHAW: I think so.

    KOTB: OK.

Ms. SHAW: I think there's a decent chance.

KOTB: OK. OK. All right, so now we've got Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama . You like -- and there's a lot of great actresses.

    Ms. SHAW: Yes, there are.

    Mariska Hargitay Law Order: SVU

KOTB: You like Julianna Margulies .

Ms. SHAW: I love Julianna Margulies . I love that show. It's also nominated for Best Drama , but I don't think it's going to win there. She is so good in that and she is just -- oh, she's just fabulous.

    KOTB: She's a home run. I know.

Ms. SHAW: Yeah, she's an absolute home run.

KOTB: There are a lot of great -- Glenn Close is up.

    Ms. SHAW: Mm-hmm.

KOTB: I mean, they have a lot of terrific...

Ms. SHAW: January Jones on " Mad Men " also had a very strong year last year, so she wouldn't be a complete shocker.

KOTB: All right. So the comedy, what have we got in comedy here?

TURNER: Let's see here, the comedy...

KOTB: Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy .

    TURNER: Yeah, Steve.

Ms. SHAW: I'm saying Steve Carell .

KOTB: You do? You think Steve ?

Ms. SHAW: I think from " The Office ." He has never won for playing Michael Scott , and to me that's just a travesty. And of course, this year he announced that this coming year is going to be his last.

    KOTB: He should win.

Ms. SHAW: So I really think he deserves it.

KOTB: I think he -- I love that show. " The Office " is hilarious. I hope he wins. OK. Lastly, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy . A lot of people, I mean, they were saying Amy Poehler in "Parks and Recreation."

    Ms. SHAW: Yeah.

    KOTB: What do you think?

Ms. SHAW: I think she has a really good chance.

    KOTB: She's got it?

Ms. SHAW: I think it's between her and Edie Falco from "Nurse Jackie." I think one of those two. I don't think it's Tina Fey 's year, brilliant and hilarious though she is.

    KOTB: Why not?

Ms. SHAW: I think, you know, she's won -- she's won a bunch of times.

    KOTB: Yeah.

Ms. SHAW: The show has won. I think it's time to pass the torch.

KOTB: OK. All right, good. Good luck with everything.

    Ms. SHAW: Thank you.

    KOTB: And again, congratulations.

Ms. SHAW: She kicks when I say a winner.

KOTB: Well, OK. October you're due. Thanks, honey. All right. You can catch the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards live this Sunday at 8, 7 Central on NBC . And still to come, it is AMBUSH MAKEOVER Friday. You know what that means? Yeah, the results are on the way.
