lindsay lohan
finishes her 90-day court-ordered stint in rehab, still paying the price for a drunk driving arrest 3 1/2 year ago. tmz do tmz.com reportsleave, she may actually stay for another week for more treatment. over the weekend, she tweeted a quote from gandhi -- the future depends on what we do in the present. so what's next for this once promising 20-year-old actress? joining me is her dad
michael lohan
. good morning.
>>
good morning. how are you?
>>
we had hoped to have you on live earlier, we were a little worried. when have you heard from her most recently?
>>
she's trying to coordinate things to actually leave
betty ford
, so her new apartment is ready.
>>
she's not staying because she needs to stay. she feels she would be better served as staying at
betty ford
? it's a question of where she's going to?
>>
no. i don't know where these things come from. it's so ridiculous. she's been there for four months. she's done a stellar job at getting the help she needs. she's ready to come out. i would be the first one to say she wasn't if she wasn't. it has to do with her having the right place to go do when she gets out of here and having the means to get there without it being a whirlwind.
>>
your ex had suggested she thought it would be good for her to get away from hollywood that new york was mentioned as a place where she might be able to have time to both do her work and continue. i understand if you don't want to tell us exactly where she's moving to, about you do you think it's best for her to be getting out of holy wid?
>>
first of all deana suggests a lot of things, most of which are not true anyway. but it doesn't matter where
lindsay
is, there will be elements of addiction and temptation around her all the time. is it better to be away from old haunts? absolutely. people, places and things are very dependent on the recovery. she's actually turned everything around to the degree where she actually has the same people involved in her life when she started, when she was building her career, so i see it as a way of rebuilding her life. she has new additions, one who you think is doing a great job of coordinating the whole thing, but it boils down to one thing. she can have all the structure, all the right people in her life, but if she doesn't have some kind of peace and resolve with her parents, and i've been trying to do this for years, and i'm begging and begging dina to stop the nonsense and sit down with me and just put our differences aside.
lindsay
and the rest of our children don't need to be involved, because it's going to destroy them and it's not going to be easy for
lindsay
if she doesn't.
>>
one of the things you know well has been widely reported is stress between you and
lindsay
, but you say you were tweeting up to the point where you called us. how is she doing? is she excited about starting this? apprehensive? nervous?
>>
i think she's ready to go after four months. she's taken the program seriously. i can say that. she's more open and honest with me and tell me things i would never imagine she would share with me. it's a way of cleansing. and honesty is so paramound in this whole situation. they have to put their cards on the table and say this is how we have to deal with.
>>
look, this is a
young woman
who clearly showed so much talent and so much promise. are you worried at all that getting back into the swing of things, you know, she had been for a while tied to this bio-pic of
linda lovelace
, that's not going to happen.
>>
thank god.
>>
are you worried about her going to her career that will make it difficult for her to stay clean, at least in the short run?
>>
that's a
loaded question
. there's a whole bunch of different questions and answers for that. do i think it was good idea to leave the lovelace and inferno film? -- she didn't have to relive the life of someone addicted to drugs and death afterwards. no, it wasn't a good dwrd. are there other things she can do? sure. she's built a line, an amazing pocketbook line and now she's working on shoes. she doesn't have to be in acting until she's ready. as a matter of fact, it's very funny.
tom hansen
is her entertainment attorney, and
tom hansen
is
robert downey jr
.'s lawyer, and he really helped robert put things in the right place. i can't say enough about the people around her now.
>>
he is definitely someone who can be looked at as an example to come out the other side, phenomenally successfully on so many levels. are there offers out there for
lindsay
and for people out there who are her fans? will we see her on the screen soon?
>>
more than you can imagine. she wants to pick the right projects and start with the kind of films she knows she's best for. my hats off to her and the people helping her to pick the projects. i hope that all her ducks can be in a row, that's it.
>>
everyone wishes her well, everyone hopes this stint in rehab has been the one that works for her. thank you, michael, for giving us a call.
>>
and i'm sorry for the mistake in time and all that. i really apologize.
>>
i'm glad we got to talk. thank you so much. our best to
lindsay
.
>>
happy new year.
