Aredeshir Fardin, 39, reportedly was told by a Frontier Airlines gate agent that he could not bring his dog aboard his flight to Michigan because he did not have the proper documentation to fly with his pet.

Fardin called a friend to come get the dog, which he left outside the airport in a crate in 21-degree temperatures. Leaving an animal outside in freezing temperatures without adequate shelter can prove fatal, according to a police affidavit.

Fardin then boarded his flight but was arrested before it departed.

He was charged with cruelty to animals.
