“Mystic River” took the other feature category for best art direction in a contemporary film.

Production designer Grant Major and supervising art director Dan Hennah led the crew recognized for “King,” the third installment in the epic fantasy trilogy.

“There should be 400 people behind me tonight, because you can imagine the life we’ve had over the last six years — it’s huge,” Major told the 600 guests at the Beverly Hilton.

In addition to producer Barrie Osborne and New Line Cinema, Grant singled out director Peter Jackson: “He gave us the drive and determination and will to succeed.”

“Mystic River” brought kudos to production designer Henry Bumstead and art director Jack Taylor Jr.

“I’ve had 63 wonderful years in film, and I just can’t believe I’ve been so lucky,” Bumstead said.

The pilot for the HBO series “Carnivale” won for best art direction on a single-camera television series.
