    >> reporter: this family bought the home in 1988 and raised their family here, but now they are home alone .

    >> lots of good memories. it's hard to leave a place where you have been this happy.

    >> reporter: asking price? $2.4 million. and a do it yourself home security plan is already mapped out. the three-story, 4,200 square foot house sits on a half acre lot, has a huge screened in porch and four bedrooms. each of the bedrooms has a bathroom attached. [ screaming ]

    >> people have an emotional attachment to this house in that it reminds them of home and family and good times.

    >> reporter: the mcdonald family took a look the day it went on the market.

    >> it's a great piece of history in a great area.

    >> reporter: the scene set in the kitchen, the basement and the main staircase were shot in the house over four and a half months. when the owners finally saw the movie, it solved the mystery.

    >> we had been trying to figure out how we lost the top of one of the trees. we watched the movie at the premiere and learned where it went.

    >> reporter: just being in this house , i can't help but channel the character.

    >> heads up!

    >> don't worry, marv. i'll get him for you.

    >> harry! [ grunts ]

    >> yes!

    >> reporter: whoever buys it will have a good place to come home to.
