Michael Jackson is having a disagreement with his lawyer over legal fees, says a well-placed source. The insider claims that Thomas Mesereau says that Jackson hasn’t been paying all his legal bills. In April, Mesereau replaced Mark Geragos and Benjamin Branfman in defending Jackson against child molestation charges; in October, his long-time lawyer, Steve Cochran, also left the case, but continued to consult.
“Mesereau keeps waiting for more visits from Mr. Green — if you get my drift,” the source says. The source says that at least one of Jackson’s former lawyers also had an issue regarding payment. The dethroned king of pop has had several clashes over cash recently. In November, his former producer F. Marc Schaffel filed a suit claiming he was owed more than $3 million in loans and fees. And earlier that month, Kamand Enterprise filed suit against Jackson claiming that he failed to pay for $178,875 worth of antiques and furniture.
Mesereau couldn’t be reached for comment, but Jackson’s rep told the Scoop, “I would say that is more than likely not true.”
‘Charming but tiny’
Baryshnikov was given the Nixon Center’s Distinguished Service Award by Julie Nixon Eisenhower at the Four Seasons in Washington D.C., but one of the attendees tells the Scoop that several of the speakers “stumbled and struggled and bumbled” when it came to pronouncing his name. “They were senators and ambassadors such as the U.S. Ambassador to Spain George Argyros,” harrumphed the source. “Maybe that’s why we’re having diplomatic and intelligence problems.”
The source says “Baryshnikov was charming — if somewhat tiny. He gave a ten minute acceptance speech and was especially warm to Jeffrey Bewkes, Chairman of TimeWarner Entertainment and Networks Group, who introduced him. Bewkes said that Baryshnikov’s willingness to do HBO’s ‘Sex and the City’ was especially meaningful since it was one of the few times that he didn’t get the girl.”
Notes from all over
"I was flicking through the channels one day and I saw a bit of it on TV and I genuinely thought there was something wrong with the sound because my voice was too high and I seemed so young,” he said, reports World Entertainment News Network...“I think I missed most of the 1980s, really,” James Caan tells Playboy’s January issue. “I think I had a good time, but I don’t remember”...The “Las Vegas” star also tells the mag he’s too old to attempt to seduce his co-stars such as Nikki Cox, Vanessa Marcil and Molly Sims. “Listen, if I were young enough, none of would stand a chance,” he said. “But I’d have to take all of them or none. I'm afraid that’s the deal.”
