Chris Klein talks about Katie Holmes

It was September 2004 when Chris Klein sat down with Access Hollywood to speak fondly of his fiancée at the time, Katie Holmes.

But now, 14 months later the engagement is off. Katie is with Tom Cruise. And Chris said he wishes his ex nothing but happiness.

“There is this misconception that you have been very upset about the relationship between Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise,” Access' Shaun Robinson said during our recent interview with Chris.

“People are going to write what they want to write. Her being with Tom has nothing to do with her and I discontinuing our relationship. People move forward people move on it's what we do,” Klein explained.

And some just move forward faster than others. Just eight months ago, Chris and Katie broke off their engagement. Three months later, Katie was engaged to Tom and just last month, the couple announced they are expecting their first child.

“A lot has been made of her getting into Scientology,” Shaun noted of Katie.

“For me, what we had was very, very special and I hope that she's making decisions that are making her happy and that she doesn't have people in her life leading her astray from what she wants and what she believes,” he answered.

When Chris was interviewed by Details magazine for a recent article, he said his relationship with Katie ended for one simple reason.

“We grew up,” Chris explained. “The fantasy was over, and reality set in. We weren't lighting each other’s fire anymore.”

Chris will next be seen on the big screen in the romantic comedy “Just Friends” alongside Ryan Reynolds and Amy Smart.

“Just Friends” hits theaters November 23.
